The Columbia Guide to Standard American English

The first thing I noticed about my copy of this book that I received was that the cover had been bent and had a permanent crease in it. However, the inside was fine, no marks or page damage of any kind. However, I paid less than half what a new copy would have been, so I'm satisfied with my purchase. I bought it for strictly utilitarian purposes, as I am a proofreader and my client uses this for a style manual. I did not buy this to be a "coffee table book"! The book is laid out in dictionary format throughout, rather than topical, which surprised me because that's not what I'm used to in a style manual.
